DAHLIA GROWING TIPS HERE!

A large part of our flower offerings are our dahlias.  I fell in love with so many of the varieties and I have been adding to my stock for several years.  We have well over 100 varieties currently and I add a few more each year.  The amount of varieties that are available each year makes them quite enjoyable to collect.  Amazing dahlia breeders are coming out with new ones each year too.  The blooms are stunning and there are so many shapes, types, and sizes available.  We started with about 5 plants for many years and I just left them in the ground and took a gamble on if they'd survive winter. They did pretty well for such abuse!  Then, somehow I end up with 60 plants a couple years later and the collection quickly grew to almost 200 plants last year.

Now, each autumn, we dig them all up and I quickly get to work dividing them and carefully inspecting each tuber for growth viability and any disease concerns. I've spent quite a bit of time educating myself on signs of disease and the common issues that affect dahlias. When in doubt, I toss it because I don't want any questionable stock for myself or for my customers.  We employ careful sanitation practices to help prevent any cross-contamination issues.  So far that practice has been working well for me and I've been able to enjoy wonderful success with dahlias.

The stored tubers are doing well in storage and I have been checking them carefully all winter, and monitoring storage temperatures remotely with sensors connected to my phone.  They are doing amazing so far.  I feel confident enough to start with selling half my inventory of extra tubers in the online farm store.  All dahlia orders will be held in storage until closer to when it is safe to ship them (this is typical of dahlia sellers).   We will also have a restock of our store closer to the shipping times, we are just starting with caution as to not oversell the stock available.

We have our nursery license with the State of Oregon and we have a shipping permit to be able to ship tubers in the United States.

I feel like dahlias should come with a wee bit of a warning though.  They can be addictive because once you enjoy a few pretty ones you might want to start collecting them all!

WARNING!  Beautiful Blooms Ahead!

Dahlias are highly addictive & your garden may double in size each year! :)
