About Us

Bob & Julie Summerfield

Bob and I both grew up in the Pilot Rock area.  After we got married and had kids, we knew we wanted our kids to have a rural upbringing.  We wanted them to learn work ethic & grow up a little bit slower.  Bob has been a superintendent for a local general contractor for many years.  He has always loved what he does for a living.  I am thankful we were able to prioritize my being home to homeschool our 4 kids.  We remodeled a home in Pilot Rock over the course of 10 years.  Sometimes the dream to own property seemed impossible with a single income.  So I started adding farm life to our yard in town by building a chicken coop in January when I was 5 months pregnant.  Bob was traveling for work, and he was surprised to see a mostly built coop when he came home at the end of the week.  I continued to enjoy being creative with adding food crops into our landscaping and tending to our animals until it was finally time to move out of town.

We bought this place in 2012, and we decided this was the right fit because it was a 5-acre parcel that had hard-to-come-by water rights.  The house and outbuildings were a fixer-upper situation so we considered them a "bonus", we were thankful for at least a livable house and a few outbuildings. It's taken some time to save and get the work done, but each year we make a little more progress and we have so much to be thankful for.  We love our neighborhood and we all watch out for one another.  Many unique blessings, opportunities, and ideas have brought us to where we are in this journey.

I enjoy riding my horses, sewing, homeschooling, basic woodworking, and I enjoy learning all kinds of new skills and ideas.  It's mostly my job to focus on managing the farm aspects as Bob has his hands full with his job during the week.  Bob can usually be found working on projects around here on the weekends.  He also enjoys fishing, hunting, mushrooming, and camping any chance we get too.  He actually tells me he enjoys weeding our garden. He is always striving to make our dreams and ideas come to life.  I am forever grateful we get to spend this life together.:)

Our kids- Holden (left), Toby, Evan, and Sierra (right).  We are so proud of them.  They are all living their best lives, doing useful things in the community and learning about life.  The family has also grown by 2 in the form of spouses for the oldest two  (I couldn't find a photo with everyone together).
